SHRM UHD Hosts 2026 Statewide Conference
The SHRM UHD Chapter at the Marilyn Davies College of Business has been selected to
host the 2026 SHRM Texas Student Conference and Case Competition at the University
of Houston–Downtown.
This premier statewide event convenes student members of the Society for Human Resource
Management (SHRM) from approximately 15 universities across Texas. The conference
serves as a cornerstone experience for developing future HR leaders, offering students
meaningful opportunities for networking, professional development, and engagement
with real-world human resources challenges.
A signature component of the event is the SHRM Texas Student Case Competition. Each
participating institution fields a team of three to six students who analyze and present
solutions to a complex HR-focused business case. Designed to reflect the type of work
HR professionals encounter in practice, the competition requires students to diagnose
ambiguous problems, apply core HR frameworks, develop strategic recommendations, and
present their findings to industry judges.
Beyond technical knowledge, the case of competition strengthens collaboration, critical
thinking, and executive communication skills. Students must work efficiently under
time constraints, build persuasive presentations, and respond confidently to questions
from HR leaders.
UHD first participated in the competition in 2024 and won the event. Following continued
engagement in 2025, including participation in San Antonio under the leadership of
SHRM Faculty Advisor Dr. Chris Zhang, UHD was selected as the host institution for
2026 in recognition of its commitment, excellence, and growing impact in HR education.
Hosting this statewide conference highlights the strength of MDCOB’s HR program and
reinforces UHD’s role in preparing the next generation of HR professionals across
Texas.
