Human Resource Management (HRM) Advisory Council
The Human Resource Management Advisory Council at the University of Houston-Downtown's Marilyn Davies College of Business plays a vital role in guiding and enhancing the HRM academic programs. Composed of accomplished professionals from diverse industries and key internal stakeholders, the Council fosters collaboration between the university and the business community. Its mission is to support student success, ensure curriculum relevance, and drive positive societal impact through strategic insights, mentorship, and advocacy. By engaging in meaningful dialogue and development efforts, the Council helps prepare students to become future HR leaders equipped for today’s dynamic workplace.

Stacey Brown
Stacey Brown is the Vice President of Human Resources at Mac Haik Enterprises, where
she leads the organization’s overall HR strategy across its diverse business divisions.
With more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality, retail, and professional
services sectors, Stacey brings deep expertise in leadership development, organizational
performance, and strategic communication.
Before joining Mac Haik Enterprises, Stacey held key HR leadership roles at Harvey
Builders, Jones Day, and SunGard. She is a certified SHRM-SCP professional and actively
contributes to the advancement of the HR field through her involvement with the Society
for Human Resource Management. She currently serves on the board of HR Houston (2023–present),
supporting initiatives that strengthen the HR community.
Stacey holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA
from Texas A&M University.

Carole Clerie
As Vice President for Human Resources, Ms. Clerie leads the Division of Human Resources
and sets long-range strategic goals for talent management. She identifies and implements
initiatives that promote employee relations, organizational growth, and a positive
workplace culture. Clerie also oversees the creation and enforcement of HR policies
and procedures that comply with legal standards and reflect best practices, working
collaboratively with the University of Houston System to align efforts across institutions.
Clerie earned her bachelor's degree in management information systems from Florida
Atlantic University and an MBA in finance from Lynn University.

Roxanne Cox
As Chief Human Resources Officer, Roxanne Cox leads Hanover Company's HR organization. Roxanne oversees initiatives targeted at attracting, developing and retaining Hanover employees. Prior to joining Hanover, Roxanne was the Vice President of Human Capital for several global real estate operating companies, including Verde Realty and Security Capital Group. In these positions, she provided strategic oversight of the HR function, led the development of organizational leaders, and implemented innovative compensation and benefits solutions which significantly improved employee retention.
In addition to her corporate leadership experience, Roxanne has served as an adjunct instructor and corporate fellow at the University of Houston–Downtown (UHD) since 2016, where she shares her HR expertise with students in the Marilyn Davies College of Business.
Roxanne earned her BA, MBA, and PhD in Business with a specialization in Human Resource Management from New Mexico State University. She also holds certifications as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).

Mayerland Harris
Mayerland Harris, Group VP of HR for H-E-B, is a dynamic, influential leader and team builder with over 31 years of retail experience in HR and store operations - more than 27 of those years with H-E-B. She leads an impressive team of HR professionals including Field HR Managers, Recruiters, Training & Development Managers and Organizational Talent Managers.
Mayerland received her BBA from University of Texas at Austin and her MBA from Texas A&M University. She currently sits on the boards of the Houston Food Bank, HR Houston, and the Strategic HR Advisory Board at Rice University. Mayerland is a lecturing Corporate Fellow for the MBA program at the University of Houston-Downtown.

Julie Jenkins
Julie Jenkins is a Human Resources and Organizational Development Executive with a distinguished career spanning Fortune 10 corporations and the not-for-profit sector. Known for her dynamic leadership and strategic insight, she has held impactful roles across diverse industries including consumer products, consulting, financial services, foodservice, office technology, and non-profit organizations. Julie leverages her deep expertise in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Change Management, and Talent Development to foster innovative and inclusive workplace cultures. Her people-centric approach has led to transformative outcomes in Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, Organizational Effectiveness, and Employee Engagement.
In 2025, Julie founded Chrysalis Consulting, a firm dedicated to igniting transformation across people, processes, systems, and communities. With a mission rooted in holistic growth and innovation, Chrysalis empowers individuals and organizations to thrive in rapidly evolving environments. Julie’s past roles include Senior Director of People & Culture at BakerRipley and Director of Diversity Engagement & Inclusion at Sysco, where she led pioneering initiatives in strategic human capital management and cultural transformation. A passionate educator and community leader, Julie actively contributes as a faculty member and fellow at academic institutions, while serving on various nonprofit boards. She holds an MS in Organizational Management and HR Development from Manhattanville College and a BA in Math and Philosophy from Mt. Holyoke College.

Bonita Lockings
As Senior Vice President of People & Culture at the Greater Houston Partnership, Bonita serves as a strategist and business partner for the organization on talent management, compensation, perks and benefits, career development, process improvement, organization development and general human resources administration.

Laura Mendoza
Laura Mendoza has a diverse and extensive background in human resources. Laura has held various positions with different companies and demonstrated expertise in strategic HR planning, talent management, mergers and acquisitions, performance management, and employee engagement. Laura has experience in leading HR teams, providing consulting services, and partnering with senior executives to align HR strategies with business goals. Her work experience spans several industries, including energy, dental insurance, banking, financial services, and technology. Throughout her career, Laura has consistently delivered value by designing and implementing innovative HR initiatives and programs to support organizational growth and success.
Laura Mendoza completed her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in International Business at Texas A&M International University from 2013 to 2015. Prior to that, she obtained a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Sociology with a minor in Women's Studies from Texas State University in 2002. She is currently working on her Executive Professional Coaching Master's Degree at UT Dallas.

Megan Soltura
Megan brings over a decade of Human Resources experience, offering strategic leadership and guidance in startup and growth-oriented businesses across the global energy sector, including professional services, field services, and manufacturing. Before joining Crane Worldwide Logistics, she served as Director of Human Resources – Western Hemisphere at Hoover Ferguson Group, a global provider of manufacturing, liquid handling, and services for intermediate bulk containers. Prior to that, she played a key role at GATE Energy, where she led the HR function through the company’s transformation from a small business into a multi-state enterprise with an international footprint.
Megan earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from the University of Houston-Downtown. She holds SHRM-CP (SHRM Certified Professional) and PHR (Professional in Human Resources) accreditations, and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Wesley Vestal
Chief People OfficerWesley Vestal serves as the Chief People Officer at CAI, a global professional services firm supporting the Life Sciences and Mission Critical industries. Since joining CAI in 2022, he has led the People Solutions team in overseeing key functions including talent acquisition, business partnership, talent management, compensation and benefits, learning and development, and global mobility across a workforce of 800 professionals in 13 countries. His career spans more than two decades in human capital leadership, including executive roles at Elsmere Education Inc., where he focused on strategic growth and consulting for online graduate programs, and at multinational firms such as Weatherford, Baker Hughes, and KBR. There, he held global HR leadership roles covering talent strategy, technical and leadership training, M&A integration, and HR operations both in the U.S. and abroad.
In addition to his corporate accomplishments, Wesley has made a lasting impact in academia through his long-standing involvement with the University of Houston-Downtown. Since 2016, he has served as a Corporate Fellow at UHD’s Marilyn Davies College of Business, co-teaching MBA courses such as Interpersonal Leadership Effectiveness in Business and The Business Leader Role in Talent Development. A recognized thought leader, Wesley is a published author, frequent speaker at industry conferences, and holds a patent in activity accounting and visualization. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Trinity University and holds a Global Professional in Human Resources certification, along with executive education credentials from Duke University and the University of Houston.
