Cost Center Definition
Cost Center Definition is a screen in PeopleSoft Finance that is utilized by the UHD Budget Office to:
- Create cost centers
- Deactivate cost centers
- Change cost center managers
- Upload backup supporting approved cost center action
Only the UHD Budget Office should have edit access to the Cost Center Definition screen, while other users should have view access. The screen allows all users to view supporting documentation included with all cost center action requests.

Backup Documents
The department is required to provide backup for all cost center creation, deactivation, title change or manager modification requests.
The Budget Office uploads backup behind each cost center action to house historical information such as fund source, purpose, spending restrictions apply, who requested the cost center action, and who approved the cost center action.
Without backup accompanying the request forms, the Budget Office will be unable to determine whether the requested cost center/chartfield value action is accurate, reasonable and meets UHS/UHD practices and standards.
