The SafeZone safety app will be discontinued effective Friday, June 12, 2026.

 

SafeZone has provided users with the ability to send emergency alerts and share their location directly with the University of Houston-Downtown Police Department (UHD PD). As part of an ongoing review of safety technology and services, UHD PD has made the decision not to renew its contract with the app and is currently evaluating alternative solutions that will continue to support campus safety. The goal is to streamline systems and ultimately increase the participation and engagement rates of our community members.

What this means for you:

  • SafeZone services will no longer be available after June 12, 2026.
  • Users should not rely on the app for emergency assistance after this date.

How to get help:

  • In an emergency, please call 911 from your mobile phones.
  • Call 8911 from campus landlines.
  • Additionally, emergency call boxes (yellow) are also located in many of UHD's hallways and blue light call boxes can be found outdoors.

UHD PD remains committed to the safety and well-being of the campus community and will share updates as new safety tools become available.

  1. Is UHD still using the SafeZone app?

No. Effective June 12, 2026, the University of Houston-Downtown is no longer partnered with the SafeZone app.

  1. Why is SafeZone being discontinued?

UHD is transitioning away from the SafeZone platform as part of updates to campus safety communication services and emergency notification processes.

  1. Will the SafeZone app still work on campus?

After June 12, 2026, SafeZone services will no longer be supported by UHD and users should not rely on the app for campus safety communications or emergency assistance.

  1. Do I need to delete the SafeZone app?

Users may remove the SafeZone app from their devices after June 12, 2026, since it will no longer be affiliated with UHD.

  1. Who should I contact if I have questions?

  1. What should I do in an emergency?

In an emergency, call 911 immediately. For non-emergency campus assistance, contact the UHD Police Department dispatch line.
