The SafeZone safety app will be discontinued effective Friday, June 12, 2026.
SafeZone has provided users with the ability to send emergency alerts and share their
location directly with the University of Houston-Downtown Police Department (UHD PD).
As part of an ongoing review of safety technology and services, UHD PD has made the
decision not to renew its contract with the app and is currently evaluating alternative
solutions that will continue to support campus safety. The goal is to streamline systems
and ultimately increase the participation and engagement rates of our community members.
What this means for you:
· SafeZone services will no longer be available after June 12, 2026
· Users should not rely on the app for emergency assistance after this date
How to get help:
· In an emergency, please call 911 from your mobile phones
· Call 8911 from campus landlines
· Additionally, Emergency phones are also located in many of UHD's hallways and blue
light phones can be found outdoors
UHD PD remains committed to the safety and well-being of the campus community and
will share updates as new safety tools become available.
