At the University of Houston-Downtown College of Public Service, our adjunct faculty play a vital role in shaping the next generation of public servants, leaders, and justice professionals. As part of the Teaching Fellow initiative, this special video series highlights the outstanding dedication, experience, and impact of the educators who help make our programs thrive.

In this featured interview, viewers will hear personal insights from a Social Work and Urban Education faculty member about their experience teaching at UHD, the meaningful connections formed with students, and memorable success stories from the classroom. Through these conversations, the College celebrates the passion and commitment our adjunct instructors bring to student success and community engagement every day.

An Urban Education Book Launch

On Thursday, April 16th, 2026, the College of Public Service hosted an engaging Urban Education Book Launch at the Commerce St. Building (C100) and via Zoom.

The featured book explored the integration of translation and second language acquisition with literacy as a social practice, presenting an innovative approach to language teaching and learning. It offered a strong transdisciplinary foundation, highlighted the benefits of translation, and provided practical sample activities for use as a collaborative pedagogical tool across K–12 and postsecondary settings.

The session featured Dr. Sarah Albrecht, Assistant Professor of Bilingual Education in the Department of Urban Education at the University of Houston-Downtown.

Mallett Undergraduate Student Teaching Scholarship

The Mallett Scholarship is available to undergraduate students entering the semester of student teaching. Students who meet the initial requirements are eligible to apply for the $3,500 scholarship.
Due Dates: end of November for spring awards and end of March for fall awards.
