The Emeritus Max Castillo Scholarship was founded in honor of former UHD President Max Castillo. As such, the scholarship is open to undergraduate preservice teachers admitted to the UE program who have.

Gordon and Mary Cain Undergraduate Future Teacher Academic Merit Scholarship

Gordon and Mary Cain Undergraduate Future Teacher Academic Merit Scholarship is a competitive scholarship for students who will be enrolling in Professional Development Semester 3 (PD4) and student teaching in the upcoming semester.

Scholarships will be awarded for academic merit. This is a competitive scholarship available for students who are currently enrolled in the MAT or MAT with Certification programs.

Hazel Ruth Shanklin Memorial Scholarship

The Shanklin scholarship is designed to support one female student in the teacher education program at the University of Houston-Downtown. Specifically, the scholarship will help the recipient to purchase an electronic device as needed to support the student's education, pay for textbooks or registration at UHD. The Mallett Undergraduate Student Teaching Scholarship 

(*Spring portals will open at the beginning of spring semester*)

The Mallett Scholarship is available to undergraduate students entering the semester of student teaching. Students who meet the following initial requirements are eligible to apply for the $3,500 scholarship:

Due dates: end of November for spring awards and end of March for fall awards.

  • Enrolled in the College of Public Service.  
  • Entering the semester of student teaching, prior to completing a degree in Urban Education.  
  • Minimum GPA of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.  
  • Must complete a separate application for the Gordon and Mary Cain Undergraduate Future Teacher Academic Merit Scholarship. 
  • Submission of a 500-word essay explaining how receipt of this scholarship will contribute to their financial and professional success while student teaching

Urban Education Scholarship

(*Spring portals will open at the beginning of spring semester*)

This scholarship is designed to help support students in the teacher education program at the University of Houston-Downtown. Specifically, the scholarship will assist students with course and textbook fees during any one (1) of the three (3) semesters in which they are taking their Professional Development Sequence; that being the two semesters in which they are serving as interns in public schools and the one semester in which they are student teaching. A student may receive the scholarship for one semester. Awards are based on available funds and should not be expected as a matter of course (Deadline: Fourth Friday in March). READ MORE
