LC1: Communicate Transparently

Overview

From the overall course design to individual assignments, effective digital instruction involves being transparent about the purpose, task(s), and criteria for success. This is important for all modalities, but it is vital for asynchronous online courses or for course components in which students engage primarily through the LMS or a digital tool. Up front transparent design and clear communication can prevent learning disruption when in-person or other synchronous interaction is not possible or limited by external factors like weather or public health events. Strategies or design elements that align with this objective include a “Getting Started” section of the course or a “Resource Page” for navigating different course components or assignments.
