Graduate Costs and Financial Aid

Overview

UHD is committed to making graduate studies accessible and affordable for our students. We are proud to offer students more affordable tuition and fees rates than many other universities, and we strive to help students offset the costs through financial aid, scholarships, and assistantships whenever possible. Although pursuing a graduate program will require some sort of investment from each student, we hope that it will be affordable and transformative for you and your career!

UHD Graduate Student Financial Aid

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) assists students with the financial planning and financing for their education. Financial aid consists of grants, scholarships, loans, and work study. Most aid is based upon individual financial need and eligibility. Aid is available to students who are enrolled at least on a 1/2-time basis (4 semester credit hours for graduate students), maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP), and demonstrate financial need. Financial aid is generally awarded based on the fall and spring semesters, but it is also possible to receive summer financial aid. Students not enrolled in a graduate degree or certificate program are not eligible for financial aid.

Please see the UHD Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid site as well as the Graduate Student Financial Aid page for more information about the process and awarding of financial aid and scholarships.

CHSS Graduate Student Financial Aid Pointers

  • All CHSS graduate programs are eligible for federal financial aid.
  • Students must complete a FAFSA/TASFA in order to be eligible to receive most aid.
  • Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 4 semester credits hours each term in order to be eligible for financial aid. Since most graduate courses in CHSS are 3 semester credit hours, most students will need to be enrolled in 2 courses (6 semester credit hours) in order to be eligible to receive financial aid.
  • Most graduate students will qualify for Federal Loans, but you may also qualify for a number of state or university grants.
  • The College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the various CHSS academic departments offer a significant number of scholarships to graduate students each fall.
  • UHD offers installment plans which can help students to pay a monthly amount towards their semester fee bill.
  • UHD offers Emergency Deferment Plans for in-state students and Short Term Deferment Plans for out-of-state and international students.

CHSS Graduate Scholarships

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is proud to offer a number of scholarships for both new and continuing graduate students. The scholarships generally require at least a 3.0 GPA and range from $1,000 to $3,000 per year. Please see the links below for more information on these opportunities.
