Top Five Reasons to Become a Special Education Educator at UHD
- TEXAS STUDENTS NEED YOU!
School districts across Texas urgently need Special Education certified educators who are prepared to support diverse learners. Students with disabilities represent a significant and growing portion of classrooms across the state, and districts are seeking knowledgeable, compassionate teachers who can meet their academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. - YOU WILL LEARN FROM TOP FACULTY.
The faculty in the Department of Urban Education are committed to preparing future Special Education educators through practice-based learning, research-driven coursework, and real-world application. UE faculty collaborate with local school districts to stay informed on current issues, participate in certification exam development, and provide strong support for exam preparation. - SMALL CLASS SIZES.
With an average class size of fewer than 20 students, the Department offers personalized attention and the support needed for teacher candidates to thrive. - YOU WILL BUILD AN ADVOCACY NETWORK.
Teacher candidates develop the knowledge and skills to advocate for inclusive practices, accessibility, and equitable learning environments for students receiving Special Education services. - TARGETED HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE.
Our program places teacher candidates on local school district campuses in Special Education classrooms and inclusive settings for more than twice the state-required hours. This extensive field experience gives teacher candidates deeper opportunities to engage with students, collaborate with educators, and strengthen their instructional skill set.
