Gator Success Institute – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The Gator Success Institute is a department that provides holistic student at UHD designed to help students persist, succeed academically, and reach their full potential.

GSI primarily supports first-year, second-year, and transfer students, but all UHD students can utilize GSI services and resources. Graduate students are also welcome to visit GSI as walk-ins; however, they are typically referred to the appropriate campus resources or departments that best align with their specific needs.

GSI provides a variety of student success services, including:

Success Coaching provides one-on-one support to help students:

  • Manage time effectively
  • Develop study skills
  • Stay organized
  • Connect with campus resources
  • Overview of the Attendance Policy
  • Communicating with the Professors
  • Short-term and long-term Goal

No. GSI is for all students, whether you need support, guidance, or just want to stay on track and improve.

Peer Mentors are trained student leaders who:

  • Support students academically and socially
  • Help navigate campus resources
  • Provide guidance through shared experiences

Yes. All GSI services and programs are completely free for UHD students.

Our office is open Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Success Workshops are sessions focused on:

  • Study Strategies
  • Time Management
  • Goal Setting
  • Academic Success Skills

They are designed to help students stay on track throughout the semester.

The Early Alert system allows faculty and staff to refer students who may need support. GSI then connects those students with resources and coaching to improve their success.

GSI does not provide academic advising; however, we support students by:

  • Helping you prepare for registration
  • Connecting you with your assigned academic advisor
  • Assisting with understanding a class schedule that aligns with your work and personal commitments

For official course selection and degree requirements, students should meet directly with their academic advisor.

Yes. Through programs like the Gator Success Program, students receive structured support to return to good academic standing.

GSI takes a holistic, wraparound approach, connecting academic, personal, and campus resources in one place to support student success.
