VoiceThread Setup
Create VoiceThread Assignments
There are different types of VoiceThread assignments that instructors can create. Students can be required to create their own VoiceThreads, or be required to watch and comment on a VoiceThread made by the instructor.
1. Go to the Assignments area in your Canvas course. Click the blue +Assignment button to create the new VoiceThread assignment. (See link for more on Creating Canvas Assignments.)
2. For Submission Type, use the drop menu and select External Tool.
2. Click the Find button to bring up the list of available external tools.
3. Scroll through the list of tools and select VoiceThread (the list is alphabetical order, so it is near the end.)
4. From the options listed, select Assignment Builder.
The other options listed can be placed in other parts of a Canvas course. These links would not count for a grade, and can be placed in Modules by using the + (plus) sign for a module and then selecting External Tool from the drop menu, and then VoiceThread from the list of tools.
5. Select the assignment type that you want to create.
- Create -- requires students to create their own VoiceThread. See More Information
- Comment -- students watch a prepared VoiceThread and add their comments. See More Information
- Watch -- students are required to watch an entire VoiceThread. See More Information
- Reconnect Previous Assignment -- lets you recreate the assignment link in Canvas if it was accidentally deleted. See More Information
Once all settings have been done, the new assignment link for the VoiceThread assignment will be listed in Canvas. Grading student submissions is done through the VoiceThread interface, which instructors can access by clicking the assignment link.
Student submissions will be listed in the area on the right. See More Information
