International Students: Your Next Steps

Congratulations on your admission to UHD! We are excited for your upcoming arrival. Following these next steps will help ensure a successful transition in the Summer and Fall semesters.

Step 1 Get Connected with UHD
 

Familiarize yourself with your myUHD account which is the direct link to accessing your course registration, tuition payment, and grades. Also, set up your GatorMail e-mail account to receive exclusive invitations to upcoming new student events, updates about your enrollment status, and other university communications.

Step 2 Meet with International Admissions
 

Check in with the Office of Graduate and International Admissions in the Girard Street Building (GSB), Room 308 (Bring original Visa, passport, I-94, and I-20). You will be able to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations to maintain your F-1 immigration status.

Step 3 Satisfy Your Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Requirement
 

Complete the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment or submit official scores to UHD. The TSI Assessment is designed to help UHD determine if you are ready for college-level course work in the general areas of reading, writing and mathematics. Exemptions are available if you meet the qualifications.

Step 4 Complete Transfer Orientation and Register for Classes 
 

All new Transfer Students are required to complete Transfer Orientation before registering for classes. Transfer Orientation is specifically designed to meet your transitional and academic needs, and is essential to your success at UHD. Upon successful completion of Transfer Orientation, you will able to register for your UHD classes. 

Step 5 Attend International Student Orientation
 
All new students are required to attend International Student Orientation. Our Orientation program is specifically designed to meet your transitional and academic needs, and is essential to your success at UHD. You will receive additional information in your acceptance packet.

Step 6 Submit Proof of Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination
 

Texas Senate Bill 62 requires that students age 21 and younger entering a public, private, or independent institution of higher education in Texas provide proof of immunization for bacterial meningitis. You must provide proof of vaccination or submit the proper exemption documentation before the start classes your first semester at UHD.

Step 7 Purchase Your Parking Permit
 

Familiarize yourself with student parking options, and purchase your parking permit online through your myUHD account.

Step 8 Explore UHD Payment Options
 

We encourage you to take advantage of an installment payment plan, emergency deferment plan or other payment options to help cover the cost of your tuition and fees.

Step 9 Participate in Welcome Week Activities
 

Welcome Week is a tradition that welcomes new and current students each fall and spring semester to the campus during the first week of classes. It gives you the opportunity to connect with other students while experiencing a schedule of fun and student-centered activities.
