Library Services for Alumni & Visitors
Using Library Collections
Alumni and visitors may borrow books, videos, music discs, and audiobooks from the library.
Databases, e-journals, e-books, and online media are available for use in the library, but remote access is limited to current students and faculty.
Library Cards Accepted
- UHD Alumni ID Card with valid photo identification
- TexShare Card with valid photo identification
- Affiliate Borrower Card with valid Texas driver's license

Using Library Computers
Public Computers
Use of library computers is limited to one hour session each day. Public Patrons must comply with university computing policies. 3.1 The University of Houston-Downtown Computing Systems exist to provide computing services to the UHD community in support of instruction, research, and other educational and work-related activities within its mission. 3.4 Users have the responsibility to use UHD’s Computing Systems in an effective, efficient, ethical, and lawful manner. The ethical and legal standards that are to be maintained are derived directly from standards of common sense and common decency that apply to the use of any public resource. High school students may present a school picture identification card and a letter from their teacher.
Computers are available with a valid government-issued photo identification. Public patrons are welcome to use designated public computers for internet access and research; however, printing services are not available to members of the general public. Printing services are only available to elegiable UHD users and approved affiliated visitors.
Acceptable IDs
- Texas Driver License or DPS State ID
- Out-of-state Driver License
- Passport or Passport Card
- U.S. Military ID
- Permanent Resident Card or Employment Authorization Document (EAD)
Not Acceptable
- Cut, altered, taped, cracked, or heavily faded IDs
- Expired IDs (unless accompanied by a valid renewal permit)
- Photocopies or digital photos of IDs
- Criminal justice-issued IDs, including Harris County SPN cards
Printing
Printing is available for University of Houston-Downtown alumni, current students, prospective students, faculty, staff, and visitors from affiliated universities. Printing services are not available to members of the general public.
To be seated at a printing computer, present a current identification card from:
- UHD Alumni Association (issued by Sports & Fitness)
- University of Houston
- University of Houston-Clear Lake
- Lone Star College
If you are a prospective student, present a current driver's license, state identification card, or passport, and our library staff will gladly provide access to a computer with printing. Printing services are only available to elegiable UHD users and approved affiliated visitors.
Unattended Children
For their own safety, children and young teens must be supervised at all times by a parent or another responsible adult. Staff will notify the police of any unattended child.
