Loan Periods and Renewals
Current University of Houston-Downtown students, faculty, staff, and alumni may visit the W.I. Dykes Library to borrow materials. Students, faculty, and staff from other University of Houston System campuses may borrow materials under the same borrowing privileges as their UHD counterparts. Other borrowers affiliated with UHD can borrow library materials on a limited basis. Please see the My Library Account webpage to view items that you checked out or want to renew.

Renewals
Borrowers may extend the loan period for some items on or before the due date to avoid fines or charges. However, they cannot renew items if other borrowers request them or if the library recalls them. Borrowers may renew their items by visiting the circulation desk staff on the fifth floor of the main building or contacting them at 713-221-8186. To renew online, please follow the instructions below:
- Go to the library homepage
- Choose the "My Library Account" link under the Services heading under the Library Hours link.
- Pick the UH-Downtown link in the "Login using:" box.
- Access your library account at the UHD Web Authentication Service page.
- Type your university email address into the field and press "Next".
- Type in your password into the Password field.
- Click on Sign in. This will take you to your library account.
- Click on Loans underneath the "My Library Account" heading.
- Choose the eligible items that you want to review.
- Press "Renew Selected" above the items list.
- Confirm your renewals from the "Selected loans have been successfully renewed" message.
Recalls
A recall may occur if there are outstanding holds on a checked-out item. Most items are subject to recall after six weeks. Items from the Juvenile collection, audiobooks, DVDs, and music CDs are subject to recall after three weeks. Borrowers cannot renew recalled items.
