COMM 1304

Dr. Creshema Murray, Special Assistant to the President and Associate Professor, and Bridget Mueller, Lecturer in Communication Studies, received a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to implement Open Educational Resources in the COMM 1304: Introduction to Communication. Each year, UHD offers up to 25 sections of this course, reaching nearly 1,000 students.

As a minority-majority serving institution, Dr. Murray and Ms. Mueller realized that utilizing free educational materials is not just an access issue, but one of social justice issue. This course is taught by multiple faculty and is taught in all modalities (online, hybrid, and face to face). We are excited that Manuel Fernandez, Training and Support Specialist II, in the Technology, Teaching, and Learning Center, has joined our team as our Instructional Designer. He is working to make the open educational resources more engaging and easier for students to access through a new, innovative course design in BB Learn.

This project is not just providing equal and affordable access to all students enrolled in COMM 1304, but is also providing access in an engaging, innovative format.
