Gator Card FAQs

The Gator Card is the official University of Houston-Downtown identification card. The Gator Card provides access to facilities and services such as the university library, computer labs, Sports & Fitness Center, and to pay for meals on campus using GatorCash. Students are required to use the virtual version of the Gator Card in their mobile wallet on their devices. Faculty, staff, and alumni are required to use the physical access ID cards.

Only active UHD students and employees qualify for a Gator Card. Students are required to use the virtual Gator Card in their mobile wallet but can be approved for a physical access ID card on a case-by-case basis by the Chief of Police.

Faculty, staff, and alumni are required to have a physical access ID card.
Gator Cards are non-transferable; misuse may result in disciplinary action.

GatorCash can be loaded through online credit card deposit via the Gator Card Web Portal.
  1. Log into the Gator Card Web Portal.
  2. On the left, click on Make a GatorCash Deposit.
  3. Follow the steps on the website to add funds with your credit card.

Yes! All active faculty, staff, and students can add their Gator Card ID to their Android or Apple mobile wallet by following these steps:
  1. In your phone's browser, go to the Gator Card Portal.
  2. Login using your full email address and password.
  3. Click on the three lines icon on the top left corner to display the main menu.
  4. Click on the Display Virtual ID button.
  5. Based on what device you are using, click either Add to Apple Wallet or Google Pay | Save to phone.
  6. Finally, click on Add to add your GatorCard ID to your mobile wallet.

GatorCash can be used at all UHD Dining Services locations:
  • UHD Food Court (Academic Building)
  • Starbucks (Academic Building)
  • UHD Vending Machines
  • UHD Food Trucks

To report a lost or stolen card, log into the Gator Card Web Portal and use the Lost/Stolen Card option found in the Account Management button on the left panel.

Cards that have been damaged through normal wear and tear will be replaced at no charge. Normal wear and tear includes damage caused by swiping the card through card reader devices, horizontal wear on the magnetic stripe, and horizontal breakage of the card along the magnetic stripe. Please do not punch a hole in the Gator Card, put a magnet next to your Gator Card, or bend your Gator Card.

Virtual Gator Cards are free for students and employees. Alumni are charged $10 per access ID card. Replacement cards cost $20.
