Jasminne Mendez is a Dominican-American award-winning author of several books for children and adults. Her latest work is the YA memoir, Islands Apart: Becoming Dominican American (Arte Público Press) and City Without Altar (Noemi Press, 2022), her debut poetry collection. Mendez has translated translated Amanda Gorman's best-selling Change Sings into the Spanish edition La canción del cambio. The dramatized version of her play in verse City Without Altar received its world premiere at Milagro theatre in Portland, Oregon. She holds an MFA from Pacific Lutheran University, a BA from University of Houston, and is a Canto Mundo Fellow.
