Accounting Scholarships
The 5th year scholarship has changed and is now open to students who meet the following criteria:
The purpose of the TBA Accounting Student Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to students intending to take the CPA examination as Texas applicants and ultimately to serve the residents of this state.
Who Can Apply?
The duration of the scholarship program shall be a maximum of three years and available to students who:
- Are classified as residents of Texas
- Are enrolled at a participating college or university in Texas that offer a comprehensive accounting and business program that meets the education requirements of the Board
- Are enrolled at least half-time majoring in accounting and attending consecutive semesters or in the final semester of the degree
- Have filed an Application of Intent to take the CPA examination with the Board
- Have completed 15 semester hours of upper-level accounting coursework at the beginning of the term in which the award is being made
- Are deemed to be making satisfactory academic progress
- Have registered for the Selective Service or are exempt from this requirement
- Demonstrate financial need
- Have not met the education requirements for certification in Texas as a CPA
TBA Accounting Student Scholarship Program – Application Deadlines
Each college or university establishes its own deadline for students to submit the TBA Accounting Student Scholarship application.
The Board allows colleges and universities to request funds for a student who meets the requirements for a TBA Accounting Student Scholarship during the following times.
Fall Semester awards September 15 through December 15
Spring Semester awards January 15 through May 15
Summer Semester awards May 15 through June 15
TBA Accounting Student Scholarship Program – Important Notes
- Students must meet the education requirements before a TBA Accounting Student Scholarship award may be given.
- Students must submit a complete Application of Intent to TBA and must have received
an acknowledgment letter from the Board.
(The Application of Intent is valid for two years.) - Students must meet the definitions for "financial need" at the institution they are attending.

Upon completion of the TBA Accounting Student Scholarship application, submit your signed and dated application to Dr. Dement at dementm@uhd.edu for reviewal.
Please note, the time to process your application can take up to 8-weeks. If awarded,
scholarship awards are not applied to students' records until after the start of the
semester. As such, students should make financial arrangements in advance to cover
the cost of their tuition and fees so as to not risk being dropped from their classes.
The amount of a scholarship award is contingent upon the amount of funds provided
by TSBPA along with the number of qualified students who apply.
Texas CPA Scholarships
The generosity of Texas CPAs allows the Foundation to fund scholarships to Texas college students. Recipients are accounting majors at a Texas college or university and have the intent of becoming a Texas Certified Public Accountant and entering the accounting profession upon graduation. They must have a high cumulative college GPA and perform well in accounting classes. This year TXCPA and AcctoFi plan to award 50 $2,500 scholarships to students attending four-year Texas colleges and universities and at least five $1,000 scholarships to students of two-year colleges.. TXCPA and AcctoFi Scholarship Requirements. To be considered for a scholarship, a student must:
- Be a current TXCPA member. (Not a member yet? Student membership is FREE. Join TXCPA.)
- Be an accounting major with the intent of becoming a Texas Certified Public Accountant and entering the accounting profession upon graduation.
- Attend a college or university in Texas that offers a bachelor’s or master’s degree inaccounting and graduates students each year, or attend one of the five Texas community colleges approved to offer the additional 30 hours for licensure. (Note: Applicants will select their school from a list of approved schools on the online application.)
- Submit the name and contact information for an accounting professor or department chair to provide a reference as part of their application.
- Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate college student (at least 12 semester credit hours each semester) OR
- Be enrolled as a full-time graduate or community college student (at least 9 semester credit hours each semester) or as a part-time graduate or community college student (at least 6 semester credit hours each semester and must have completed the 120 hours required to sit for the CPA Exam and are currently employed to meet the CPA licensure work experience requirement)
- Have satisfactorily completed at least 90 semester credit hours of college-level courses by August 31 of the year of application and graduate no earlier than spring semester of the same academic year.
- Have completed 15 semester credit hours of accounting courses required of accounting majors by August 31 of the application year.
- Have an Accounting GPA of 3.25 or more on a 4.0 scale.

Texas CPA Houston Scholarships
Applications are reviewed for a minimum GPA of 3.25 in accounting and 3.0 overall,
U.S. Citizenship or green card holder, and financial need. Applicants must file an
Application of Intent with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy and have declared
accounting as the major. Other criteria apply – see the application for details.
DUE DATE: All items – the completed application form, TSBPA receipt of Application of Intent,
transcripts from colleges and universities attended and presently attending, and a
letter of recommendation must be received by TXCPA Houston no later than April 15, 2026.
TXCPA Houston 2026 Accounting Scholarship application and required qualifying criteria information.
To be considered for a TXCPA Houston Scholarship, a student must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or a legal Texas resident (green card holder).
- Be an accounting major preferably entering their senior year at an accredited four-year college or university, or a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in accounting in an accredited program, or those seeking the additional 30 hours of education to become eligible for a CPA license in Texas.
- Student should be following a plan to complete a minimum of 90 credit hours by August 2025.
- College or university should be located within the Houston CPA Society’s thirteen-county membership area.
- File an Application of Intent with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA).
- Have a GPA of at least 3.25 in accounting and 3.0 overall.
- Have taken a minimum of 12 hours in accounting courses.
- Have declared accounting as the major.
- Have been considered a full-time student (at least 12 hours per semester if an undergraduate and 9 hours per semester if a graduate student) immediately prior to the current semester.
- Be a member of TXCPA Houston. Complimentary TXCPA and chapter student membership is available. Apply for free membership
- Demonstrate financial need, superior ethics, social responsibility, and high scholastic achievement on campus based on the judgment of accounting faculty.
- Plan to continue in an educational program at the university through the Fall semester of 2026
