Hazardous Waste

Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste rules are governed by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act at the federal level and various state-level regulatory policies. Hazardous waste includes unwanted items that are listed as hazardous or classified as hazardous by their characteristics. UHD laboratories and shops generate hazardous waste and are subject to  generation, storage, and disposal regulations. It is imperative to utilize good waste management practices for resource conservation and pollution prevention.

All hazardous waste should be collected and segregated into the appropriate waste stream and container to ensure proper disposal. Hazardous waste should never be disposed of in the general trash or laboratory sinks.

The EHS Office should be contacted to analyze, collect, and dispose of hazardous waste.  The EHS Office offers training to review the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and other waste regulations. For more information about UHD's generation and handling of hazardous waste, contact the EHS Office.
