Organization description: At Communities In Schools of Houston (CIS), we amplify the power of each student’s potential by connecting them to caring adults and community resources designed to help them succeed. Across the Houston community, we knit together a powerful network of partners—including volunteers, social service agencies, mental health providers, and educators—that help students stay focused, so they can go further tomorrow. Description of Internship/Common Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of needs assessments and treatment plans for caseload students with the assistance of the CIS staff/Student Support Manager
- Assist in service plan implementation as directed by CIS practicum supervisor or their designee. • Conduct individual and group supportive guidance sessions.
- Provide academic tutoring to designated students.
- Make appropriate referrals for students and/or their families to agencies in the community. • Monitor school attendance of caseload students.
- Assist CIS staff when making home visits and/or phone contact with parents of assigned students. • Assist in documentation of case management procedures and services rendered to caseload and non-caseload students.
- Plan and participate in CIS enrichment activities.
- Assist in the development and implementation of workshops for parents and students, i.e., health, career awareness, and job readiness.

Criteria for Internship:
- The student can be a graduate or undergraduate student
- Must complete CIS Internship Application and send Resume
- Complete a two-step interview (one with the intern coordinator and one with the site supervisor)
- Must attend 5-day face-to-face New Employee Orientation
- Must Pass background check
