The GRC is committed to fostering a compassionate campus community where every student
has the tools, support, and connections needed to succeed academically and professionally.
The GRC is located at One Main Building, Room N210, University of Houston-Downtown.
All currently enrolled UHD students can access GRC services, including those who are
first-generation, parenting, have foster care experience, or are unhoused/at risk
of homelessness.
GRC offers food access through Gator Mart, clothing access via Gator Shoppe, emergency
housing referrals, and benefits navigation through the Community NaviGATOR Hub.
Gator Mart, in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, provides free groceries to
UHD students. Students must register at GRC (N210) and present their school ID before
shopping
The Gator Shoppe offers free professional and everyday clothing for students, including
attire for interviews and internships. All items are new or gently used and dry-cleaned.
Yes! GRC provides educational workshops on financial literacy, housing, nutrition,
and parenting, as well as First-Gen Peer Mentoring and individualized case management.
Signature events include First-Gen Week, Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week, and Parenting
Student Month, along with advocacy during National Mentoring and Financial Literacy
Months.
The Community NaviGATOR Hub brings community organizations, financial educators, health
care advocates, and housing experts to campus and virtually to assist students.
