Onboarding
Your First Day
Welcome aboard! Your first day is all about getting comfortable and settling in. You’ll meet your manager and team, get set up with the tools you need, and walk through what your role will look like.
Review these driving directions on how to best get to the University of Houston-Downtown.
You are welcome to park in the Visitor Parking Lot, and if you stop by S910 in the One Main Building, HR will provide a free parking voucher. We encourage all employees to set up their parking pass as soon as possible on their first day. Parking and Transportation Services provides more information regarding parking.
Tips:
- When in doubt, try using your network username and password to log in to a platform such as T.A.P., the mandatory training portal, and P.A.S.S, the PeopleSoft HR self-service portal.
- You can view UHD's Employee Benefits Overview at any time. During New Employee Orientation, a Benefits Team member will cover the most important points you should be aware of. You will have 30 days from your first day to make your benefits elections.
- We recommend creating your employee badge online before your start date. This will allow us to have your badge ready on your first day, which will in turn grant you entry to parts of the campus not accessible to the general public if applicable to your role.
New Employee Orientation
New Employee Orientation takes place once a month, and it may coincide with your first day at UHD. During NEO, you'll learn about everything from UHD culture and values to key policies, tools, and resources. It’s also a great chance to meet fellow new hires, ask questions, and start building connections. Think of this as your roadmap for success here.
Staff members from various departments will stop by to give short talks about various programs and resources critical to your success, including:
- IT security, access, and technology training
- Benefits
- Staff Council
- Title IX
- Professional development opportunities
- Institutional policies
- Sports and fitness opportunities
We'll also use the day to take professional headshots, ensure you are set up with an employee ID, and can access the payroll and webclock systems.
A staff member from the Talent Management team will reach out prior to your first day to check for dietary restrictions and confirm lunch orders.
Day Two and Beyond
After your first day, you'll have access to the Human Resources SharePoint site, which has a plethora of internal resources. The site hosts a New Employee Guide that provides a breakdown of tasks you need to complete within your first 30 days, as well as detailed instructions for various platforms.
