About the UHD Staff Awards Ceremony

UHD's annual Staff Awards Ceremony is a special time to honor staff members for their dedication and service to UHD. Staff service awards recognize, honor, and reward staff members for continuous dedication and meritorious service to the University. The Staff Awards Ceremony is governed by PS 02.A.26, the Staff Service Awards policy.

Four types of awards are celebrated at the annual Staff Awards Ceremony:

  1. Service Longevity Awards
    • Service Longevity Awards recognize five (5) or more years of service at UHD, adjusted for breaks in service, in increments of five (5) years.
  2. Academic Achievement Awards
    • Academic Achievement Awards honor staff members who have successfully completed significant education development opportunities to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities, and therefore improved their opportunities for advancement.

  3. Staff Impact Awards
    • Staff Impact Awards honor UHD staff members for achievement in the following five (5) categories:

  4. The President’s Staff Excellence Award
    • The President’s Staff Excellence Award recognizes one staff member for individual excellence achieved in their role within the University. The President’s Staff Excellence Award is the highest honor the University can bestow upon a staff employee. It is designed to recognize and honor one staff member every year that has served the University in an exemplary manner.

Whether they have performed outstandingly or helped to achieve one of the University’s goals, recipients of Staff Impact Awards and The President's Staff Excellence Award will have clearly gone above and beyond normal expectations. These significant achievements are the product of an institutional effort and driven staff who have worked hard to transform the institution and raise performance levels across the board. The annual Staff Awards present an opportunity to honor the individuals and teams who have made exceptional contributions to UHD.


Award Eligibility and Nomination Information

  • Service Longevity Awards

    • Staff members who completed five (5) years of service in the academic/fiscal year 2024 will be honored at the 2024 Staff Awards Ceremony. Academic/fiscal year 2024 includes dates between September 1, 2023 - August 31, 2024. Staff members who complete other service longevity milestones in increments of five (5) years during academic/fiscal year 2024 (10 years, 15 years, 20 years, etc.) will also be honored during the 2024 Staff Awards Ceremony.
      • Please note: years of service will be adjusted for breaks in service.
    • Human Resources (HR) staff will determine the employees who are eligible for these awards.

  • Academic Achievement Awards

    • Staff members who earned an Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or Ph.D. in academic/fiscal year 2024 may self-nominate to receive an Academic Achievement Award.
    • Staff members must complete the Academic Achievement Award form by 5:00p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 to be eligible for an Academic Achievement Award.
  • Staff Impact Awards

    • Eligibility for all Staff Impact Awards:
      • All full-time, benefits-eligible staff members are eligible to be nominated for a Staff Impact Award.
      • If a staff member is selected for a Staff Impact Award they will not be eligible to win the same Staff Impact Award for the next three academic/award years. However, they will remain eligible for other Impact Awards.
    • Special requirement for the Rookie of the Year Award:
      • Only employees who have not yet completed one (1) year of service to UHD by the nomination deadline (Friday, May 24, 2024) are eligible to be nominated for the Rookie of the Year Award.
    • Staff Impact Award nominations will be accepted from any UHD employee. Self-nominations, however, are not permitted. A complete Staff Impact Award nomination packet consists of a nomination form. The Impact Award nomination packet must be submitted to the Awards Review Board designee by 5:00p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 for a nominee to be considered for a Staff Impact Award.
  • The President's Staff Excellence Award

    • Staff members with at least three (3) consecutive years of service with UHD in a full-time, benefits-eligible position may be eligible for The President's Staff Excellence Award. Eligible staff members may not have any formal disciplinary action within 12 months prior to the nomination deadline (Friday, May 24, 2024), and they must not have won The President's Staff Excellence Award in the last three (3) award years.
    • The President's Executive Board, Associate/Assistant Vice Presidents, Deans, and the Staff Council President are not eligible for The President's Staff Excellence Award.
    • Nominations for the President’s Staff Excellence Award will be accepted by any UHD employee. Self-nominations, however, are not permitted. A complete nomination packet for the President’s Staff Excellence Award consists of a President’s Staff Excellence Award nomination form and statements from two different UHD employees supporting the nominee. The President’s Staff Excellence Award nomination packet must be submitted to the Awards Review Board designee by 5:00p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 for a nominee to be considered for the President’s Staff Excellence Award.

Awards Review Board Member Selection Process

The UHD Staff Council President is authorized to create an Awards Review Board for the selection of recipients of all staff awards.

The membership of the Awards Review Board will be comprised of the following representatives:

  • One (1) representative from each of the University's seven divisions
  • One (1) member of the Staff Council Executive Board
  • One (1) former recipient of a monetary staff award
  • One (1) member of HR

Each of these requirements must be fulfilled by a different individual for a total of 10 representatives. For example, a former recipient of a monetary staff award may not be counted as two seats on the Awards Review Board if they are also a member of the Staff Council Executive Board. Every effort must be made to ensure that the Awards Review Board accurately reflects the UHD employee community. The HR representative will be a non-voting participant meant to serve as an advisor in the case of policy-related questions.


Award Selection Process

The Awards Review Board members will vote on the winners of the Staff Impact Awards using mutually agreed upon criteria that is based directly upon the text of each Impact Award.

The Awards Review Board members will recommend potential nominees for the President's Staff Excellence Award to the President. The Awards Review Board members will select nominees to submit to the President using mutually agreed upon criteria that is based directly upon the text of the President's Staff Excellence Award. The President will select the winner of the President's Staff Excellence Award.
