The University of Houston System has partnered with The Work Number to assist in handling employment and payroll verifications. The Work Number automates the employment and payroll verification process instantly online through a fast and secure connection. The service allows verifiers to receive current, as well as past UHD employee, employment dates. In addition, employees are able to review their work data to ensure it is correct.

The Work Number verifies the following data:

  • Employee name
  • Most recent hire date
  • Termination date (if no longer employed)
  • Total time with company
  • Job title
  • Rate of pay (if salary code is provided by employee)
  • Gross earnings for current year-to-date, including base pay, overtime, bonuses, and commissions
  • Gross earnings for last year and two years past, including base pay, overtime, bonuses, and commissions

There are three means by which employees and verifiers may acquire verifications of employment (VOEs): verbally, in writing, and online. 

Verbal VOE

Verbal employment verifications are limited to employee name, most recent hire date, termination date (if no longer employed), total time with the university, and job title. Written and online VOEs yield pay information. 

Step 1

Employee requests Verifier to call The Work Number at 800-367-5690

Step 2

Verifier provides The Work Number with Employer Code 17781 and employee's social security number

Step 3

The Work Number verifies employee's UHD employment

Human Resources Records may also be contacted for verbal verifications of employment.

Written VOE

Step 1

Employee emails HR Records, HRrecords@uhd.edu, to request written employment verification.

Step 2

HR Records prepares employment verification or completes employment verification provided by Employee.

Step 3

HR Records sends employment verification to Employee or Verifier provided by Employee within 2-4 business days.

Online VOE

Step 1

Employee or Verifier navigates to The Work Number, enters Employer Code 17781, and clicks Log In.

Step 2

Employee/Verifier enters the relevant Employee ID and Pin (Employee date of birth as MMDDYYYY). 

Step 3

The Work Number displays all available employment data.
