Job Summary

The Department Business Administrator I manages the administrative, financial and human resources operations of a department.

Duties

  • Evaluates, authorizes and monitors budgetary, payroll and personnel expenditures on departmental accounts.
  • Administers daily office operations, including the coordination and oversight of staff members
  • Monitors all financial accounts for the department, including reconciliation of financial and payroll reports, evaluation of discrepancies and tracking of expenditures
  • Manages and provides oversight of the maintenance of departmental database for all expenditures, personnel and payroll records
  • Monitors procedures for the compilation of reports in compliance with applicable university policies and procedures.

Marginal Duties

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Performs tasks related to specific department/college.
  • May oversee expenditures of grants and contracts and maintain related fiscal records in coordination with the Office of Sponsored Programs.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of related job experience

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of all relevant university policies and procedures, and of the related trends, issues, and accepted practices.

Skills:

  • Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office and PeopleSoft; strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; good organizational skills.

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks. Must have precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Must have the ability to move items of up to 30lbs.
