Job Summary

The Assistant Director, College Career Services manages the daily operations of the career services offered by a college, as well as the associated staff.

Duties

  • Supervises the career coach teams and manages the career counseling programs.
  • Manages employer outreach and development and maintains existing relationships; liaises with new employers regarding recruiting students and alumni for jobs and internships.
  • Organizes and manages events to promote employment opportunities for students and alumni; oversees the marketing for such events.
  • Provides individual career counseling, workshops, and career assessments for alumni, graduate, and undergraduate students to assist them to have long-term career success.
  • Troubleshoots students' technical challenges and other needs.
  • Attends regional and national conferences to benchmark career counseling and employer relations activities, as well as outcomes data.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Advising, Higher Education Administration, Social Work, or a related field

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • None required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Advising, Higher Education Administration, Social Work, or a related field is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the career services function in a higher education setting; knowledge of employment opportunities and paths in the corporate sector; knowledge of suitable marketing strategies for alumni and students.

Skills:

  • Good technical skills, including proficiency in using Content Management Systems; strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to develop and implement plans and strategies; ability to attend, plan, and host career events; ability to be flexible; ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks. Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Must have the ability to move items of up to 40lbs. May involve working at events in the evening and at weekends.
