Compliance and Ethics

Compliance is the personal responsibility of every UHD employee

As a public institution dedicated to delivering high-quality academic programs, our faculty and staff hold positions of public trust and share a responsibility to uphold the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism. In an environment shaped by increasing federal and state regulations, every UHD employee plays a vital role in supporting the Institutional Compliance Program and advancing the university’s mission by carrying out their duties in full accordance with applicable requirements and in a manner that avoids even the appearance of impropriety.

Policies

The Institutional Compliance Program is responsible for keeping the university compliant with University of Houston System (UHS) and UHD policies, of which there are three levels:

  • Board Policies UHS Board of Regents policies take precedence over all other policies.
  • System Administrative Memoranda (SAM) UHS policies that specify rules to implement Board policies or establish rules of overall UHS concern not addressed in Board policies.
  • Policy Statements University policies, known as Policy Statements (PS), are applicable only to UHD.
