Pablo Hernandez, a senior at Avalos P-TECH School, is interested in studying cybersecurity and digital forensics because he wants to protect older adults from becoming victims of fraud. Sharpstown International School senior Danae Guillen is concerned about animal rights and wants to teach children about caring for pets and wild animals. Together, they are UHD’s newest Gators!
Hernandez and Guillen are attending UHD in the fall after receiving full-ride scholarships, thanks to the UHD/Univision Contigo Tu Futuro Scholarship program. Their essays were chosen as the winning entries from hundreds. The “big reveal” took place on Tuesday, April 21, at UHD.
Since 2021, Univision Houston and UHD’s Tu Futuro scholarship program has improved access to college education for 12th grade students in the Houston area. Applicants submit an essay explaining how the scholarship will help them positively impact their community. Hernandez and Guillen are the latest in a series of Tu Futuro scholarship recipients with the drive and passion to earn their college degrees and make a difference in the community.
