Great art doesn’t just come from far-flung, gate-kept spaces. It grows right here. The Bayou Review, University of Houston-Downtown’s student-run literary and art magazine, highlights this beautifully in their Spring 2026 issue, launching at their online Zoom celebration on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Those interested in joining can access the Virtual Bayou Review Launch here.

The cover features art by José Alonso, whose photograph captures the idea of making the world’s infinite possibilities tangible through a night sky’s landscape.

The magazine’s editors sifted through hundreds of submissions from the UHD community and beyond to pull together an evocative collection comprised of poetry, translated works, visual art, short fiction, and creative nonfiction. From thrilling page-turners to poignant poems on time, love, and loss, The Bayou Review explores the spectrum of the electrifying human experience.

You can grab your own copy of The Bayou Review from OMB South 250 at their distribution party on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m!
