Join UHD’s Center for Urban Agriculture & Sustainability (CUAS) in making Earth Day 2026 a zero-waste event at Discovery Green! We’re recruiting 100 UHD student volunteers to help lead sustainability efforts at one of Houston’s largest Earth Day celebrations in partnership with Citizens’ Environmental Coalition (CEC) and Zero Waste Houston. Our Gators will help attendees properly sort compost, recycling, and landfill items, supporting the event’s zero-waste goals.  

Why Volunteer? 

Be part of a real-world sustainability initiative and help reduce waste at a major city event. Your work will directly contribute to Houston’s environmental impact. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Help attendees sort waste into compost, recycling, and landfill 
  • Serve as a sustainability ambassador 
  • Support zero-waste operations across the event 

Event Details 

  • Location: Discovery Green (Downtown Houston) 
  • Date: Saturday, April 25, 2026 
  • Shifts: Two options — (1) 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. or (2) 1 – 5 p.m. 
  • Transportation: Group travel via METRO from UHD. Volunteers will meet at UHD before the event for check-in and travel together to Discovery Green.
