This weekend, Saturday, Feb. 7, University of Houston-Downtown hosts its inaugural GatorCon, an all-day, student powered celebration of fandom, gaming, pop culture, and community.
Student Leadership and Involvement and the Sports & Fitness departments have collaborated with members of the UHD community to bring a full day of programming with performances from the likes of Gator Groove and UHD Cheer as well as a variety of panels.
Costumes are encouraged, and all are welcome to compete in the cosplay contest. There’s also still time to sign up for the Fifa 25 and the Super Smash Bros Esports tournaments running throughout the day, but those interested should hurry—the spots are first come, first serve. Tournament winners will be awarded passes to Comicpalooza, a three-day pop culture festival that will take place this year at the George R. Brown Convention Center May 22-24.
The event kicks off at the Wellness and Success Center at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. Students can access free tickets. Standard General Admission tickets run for $15.
