The Wellness & Success Center is more than a place to work out. It's a shared space for challenge, learning, and empowerment. This holds especially true for the WSC's group fitness classes. From dance-based cardio to mindful movement, each class brings a distinct style and instructor approach, creating a variety of opportunities for members looking to stay active and engaged.
The facility itself boasts spacious studios on the top floor with massive windows looking out over Houston. The classes come at no cost to WSC members, who simply need to scan a QR code to check in.
Zumba
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:30 p.m.
Zumba blends Latin-inspired dance with high-energy cardio. Participants mirror instructor Jess as she seamlessly guides the class from one sequence to the next.
The steps never veer overly complicated, and Jess' own musicality is infectious. Even if you don't have much experience with dance, it's easy to fall into a flow and find your body reacting just as much to the music as it is following the choreography.
Hip Hop Step
Wednesdays, 4 p.m.; Thursdays, 12 p.m.
The Hip Hop Step class, taught by Missy, combines step aerobics with hip hop-inspired movement for a workout that builds strength, coordination, and endurance. Participants have the option of using step platforms, which can be heightened with risers. Throughout the class, Missy encourages participants to throw in their own variations in line with the music, primarily contemporary hits, which makes for a light and playful experience.
Pilates at the Barre
Mondays, 5 p.m.
The WSC's newest offering brings a different kind of intensity. Pilates at the Barre, also led by Missy, blends elements of ballet, Pilates, and functional training to improve core stability, posture, and muscular endurance. Although the sets are less tied to music than Zumba and Hip Hop Step, Missy maintains an upbeat atmosphere with lively Afrobeats and African diaspora-influenced music.
The exercises in this class mostly target the legs and core. However, participants looking to challenge themselves have the options of holding weights or stepping away from the barre to practice maintaining balance.
Yoga
Wednesdays & Thursdays, 7 p.m.
Sienna leads a mellow Hatha yoga practice, which builds balance and flexibility through longer poses. This meditative counterpoint to the Center's other classes allows participants to focus on breathwork and process at their own pace, which makes it accessible to beginners while still functioning as a rewarding workout for experienced practitioners.
The combination of soothing music, slow pacing, and Sienna's gentle guidance makes this a fantastic way to ease into the evening. You'll walk away feeling loose-limbed and relaxed.
Across all classes, instructors are conscientious about informing participants of adaptations that eased the difficulty level. Jess, Missy, and Sienna are all fantastic at facilitating an encouraging environment.
Together, these group fitness classes form a well-rounded wellness ecosystem—one that supports strength and stability. By providing diverse formats and welcoming instructors, the WSC has created an inclusive environment where every member can find a class that fits their goals, lifestyle, and energy levels.
Keep your eyes peeled for more programming from the WSC. The Center is continuously coming up with new promotions to showcase their offerings, like the upcoming Tacos and Trainers Event, which serves free tacos to fuel up on after a 30-minute group workout and the Love Your Heart Dance Event.
