It’s a heated primary season, and the stakes are high for a number of important midterm elections this November. That’s why UHD’s Council of Organizations is hosting their first-ever Walk2Vote for Primary Election Day on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, to promote student participation in Americans’ fundamental right to vote. The celebration begins at 1 p.m. on South Deck of One Maing Building, followed by a walk to the polls.
This Tuesday, Democrats and Republicans will decide their candidates to run for important county, state, and federal offices in the November general election. In each race, the candidate who wins more than half of the votes will face the winning candidate from the other party. If no candidate gets a majority of votes in a primary race, the top two vote-getters will head to a runoff election on May 26. Voters do not have to register with a party but can only participate in one party’s primary and can only vote in that party’s subsequent runoff election.
“We are expecting a strong turnout,” said UHD student Tony Medina, Chair of Council of Organizations, the representative body of student leaders from all UHD student organizations. “We understand a lot is at stake in the upcoming midterm elections, and we know our student body will remain respectful and nonpartisan during this Walk2Vote event. We look forward to walking together to promote civic responsibility as a campus community.”
