When Mark Cervenka, Director of the O’Kane Gallery, called for submissions for the university’s first alumni art show, he wasn’t sure what to expect. To his surprise more than 50 alumni from UHD’s Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts program eagerly submitted their work in collaboration with UHD Alumni Relations.

Opening Sept. 11 with a 4 to 8 p.m. reception and running through Oct. 16 at UHD’s historic Willow Street Pump Station, the show serves as the gallery’s first exhibition of the fall 2025 semester and as a homecoming for the university’s visual art majors. From recent graduates to alumni from the early 2000s, it showcases the talents of artists taught by beloved Professor Floyd Newsum, Houston artist and lecturer El Franco Lee II, Arts and Communication lecturer Beth Secor, and, last but not least, Cervenka.

“All three of these professors encouraged me to exhibit my art in the O’Kane Gallery as a student,” said 2022 alumna and Gator staff member Katalina Castillo. “I am excited to be part of this exhibition as an alumna, to make new connections and share my work with the community.”

The exhibition invites the UHD community and the public to celebrate the creativity and enduring legacy of UHD’s fine arts alumni. Learn more about O'Kane Gallery and the new exhibit by clicking here
