When Eboni Watkins was a senior in high school, a chance meeting with the Director of the Honors Program at Houston City College paved the way for her journey to UHD. Small class sizes, affordability and a close-knit cohort of students made it the perfect choice for Watkins. However, when it came time to transfer to another university, Watkins faced a dilemma. Would she choose the University of Houston or UHD? The answer soon became clear after receiving a generous and life-changing scholarship from the C.T. Bauer Foundation.
Now, Eboni Watkins is a proud Ted Bauer Scholar and a Human Resources major at the Marilyn Davies College of Business.
"I chose UHD for multiple reasons, firstly because of the opportunities that were available here, especially being a part of the Ted Bauer Scholarship program," said Watkins. "I also enjoy that UHD is very community-oriented. It's a nice-sized campus where you get to know people quickly and run into them when walking around."
Although Watkins faced several challenges, such as adjusting to a new campus, making new friends, and relocating, she has made time during the week to write down her priorities and schedule time for herself, allowing her to focus on what is important: her academic career and future.
As for those considering a transfer to the university, Watkins has the following advice. "Put yourself out there. Join student organizations that interest you and go to events and make connections."
