What a year for UHD’s club and eSports teams with nine teams qualifying for postseason play!
UHD Baseball team just came off the road after another phenomenal season. Gator Baseball finished the regular season as the runner-up in the Great American South Conference with a 10-4 record. Their postseason journey was nothing short of spectacular, defeating Arkansas 11-2, Lonestar 8-3, and Kansas State in consecutive games with scores of 13-5 and 8-7 to earn their second consecutive invitation to the NCBA Division II World Series. After two games, the Gators were out of the running, but the third time is the charm: Here’s to next year’s World Series!
How about our UHD Wrestling program, which sent two deserving athletes to the NCWA National Championships? Jermal Sanders had an exceptional season, compiling a 14-4 record and achieving a No. 16 national ranking in his weight class, ultimately advancing to the second round of the national tournament. Zalanna Garcia also qualified for nationals, ending her season at 4-7 and ranked No. 9 nationally in her division, competing in the first round of the National Tournament.
Fall 2024 Highlights:
· Our Varsity Overwatch team dominated their regular season with a 6-1 record, advancing all the way to the Divisional Championship in NACE!
· JV Blue Royals Overwatch also showcased their skill, competing in the West Central 2 Round 4 in NACE after a solid 4-3 regular season.
· JV Rocket League battled their way through the NACE playoffs, reaching the East 7 Round 4 with a 3-4 regular season record.
· Varsity Smash Bros were a force to be reckoned with, boasting an undefeated 7-0 record in NACE and a strong 4-4 in NECC, earning them a spot in the Divisional Championship in NACE!
· JV Red Valorant displayed dominance with a perfect 6-0 record in NACE, advancing to the East 11 Round 4 in NACE competition.
· Our Men’s Basketball team had an outstanding season, finishing 7-0 and making it all the way to the HCSBC Championship game, where they narrowly lost a hard-fought battle 54-50 to TSU.
Spring 2025 Successes:
· Varsity Smash Bros showed continued dominance this spring with a 5-1 record in NACE and a 6-2 record for NECC. They were ranked 17th in NACE and competed in the Divisional championship. In NECC they were ranked 45th nationally and advanced to the second round of competition.
· Women’s Volleyball demonstrated incredible resilience and improvement! After a challenging fall season, they turned things around dramatically in the spring, finishing with a strong 4-2 record and competing in the first round of the Lonestar Sport Club Conference.
