On Thursday, May 15, seven University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Marilyn Davies College of Business (MDCOB) staff, alums, and students attended the American Marketing Association (AMA) Houston’s Crystal Awards Gala, the Bayou City’s largest marketing event. After a much-sought-after nomination in three categories, our Gators received not one, but two sparkling Crystal Awards.

After winning their first AMA Crystal Award in 2024, the team reigned victorious in 2025 by winning the “marketing: non-profit” category and judge’s choice award for MDCOB’s 2024 Welcome Week campaign known as the college’s “Dynamic Welcome.” While the team was up against marketing agencies and large nonprofits like United Way, the marketing mavens creativity, innovation, and resourcefulness set them apart.

What is in store for 2026? While the college’s Welcome Week campaigns have proven successful, the team looks to shift the spotlight elsewhere for upcoming campaigns.

Victor Henson, Digital Marketing Manager at MDCOB says, “It’s time to start looking at other areas where we can help uplift the Marilyn Davis College of Business. We're looking at raising enrollments and getting those numbers up and focusing more on our online students. So right now, that's our primary focus. And hopefully, our results can yield another Crystal Award.”

Join us in applauding this outstanding group of Gators on their third AMA Crystal Award!
