Whether you're grappling with a reliance on substances, concerned about your risk due to family history, seeking sobriety support, or looking to help another, there are numerous free or low-cost resources available to you as a UHD employee. Our goal is to ensure every member of our community has access to the help they need and feels supported in seeking assistance without stigma or hesitation.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Employees can find educational information, consultation, and services regarding prevention and management of substance abuse problems through our EAP, AllOne Health.

Learn to Live
This is an online, on-demand, self-paced mental health service through Blue Cross Blue Shield that is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy that provides coach-supported programs to help participants manage depression, insomnia, panic disorder, stress, anxiety, social anxiety, and substance use.

Discover substance abuse counseling, classes, and other recovery services for those in the Texas Bay Area.

Council on Recovery
The Council provides prevention, education, treatment, and recovery services to all who are adversely affected by alcoholism, drug abuse, other addictions, and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Hope and Healing Center and Institute
This organization hosts a number of addiction and mental health support groups.

Prevention and Recovery Center
The Center offers personalized drug and alcohol addiction treatment services including medical detox, residential, partial day treatment, and outpatient care.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
A comprehensive government resource that provides resource locators, crisis helplines, access to research, and more.

T&R Recovery Group
This is a network of treatment centers offering residential recovery for trauma, mental health, and addiction as well as in person and virtual Intensive Outpatient Programs.

This nonprofit brings together research, treatment, and a variety of resources aimed at ending the stigma around addiction.

VA Mental Health Department
Find a variety of mental health resources, information, treatment options and more for veterans, veterans' supporters, and the general public. The department offers peer support groups focused on PTSD, addiction, domestic violence, and various traumas; mental health retreats; and wellness programs.

Standards of Conduct

No student, employee, visitor, vendor, or contractor may unlawfully use, manufacture, sell, distribute, dispense, or possess any illicit drug, including alcohol, in the workplace, on campus, on university-controlled property, or as part of any UHD activity, as outlined in PS 01.A.05 Substance Abuse and Prevention Policy.

Alcohol possession, use, sale, marketing, or distribution may be permitted in the workplace, on campus, or university-controlled property only if it complies with PS 01.A.14 Use, Possession, or Distribution of Alcoholic Beverages.

Disciplinary Sanctions

Any student, employee, visitor, vendor, or contractor admitting to or convicted of the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol on campus, on university-controlled property, or at a UHD-sponsored event will be subject to disciplinary action.

  • Employees may be referred to a substance abuse assistance or rehabilitation program in which they must maintain satisfactory participation as a condition of continued employment or enrollment.
  • Employees may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment and may be referred to law enforcement for prosecution in accordance with applicable laws.

Prolonged use of drugs or alcohol can lead to serious physical and mental health consequences, including the risk of long-term dependency.
