Freshman Admission Criteria
You qualify for admission to UHD if you meet the Texas Uniform Admissions Policy and
the requirements below:

Test scores are only valid if they are within a five-year period of the testing date.
UHD freshman applicants have the option to apply for admission with or without SAT/ACT test scores for the Summer and Fall 2024 terms. Please note that if admitted without test scores,
students will still need to fulfill the TSI requirement prior to enrollment into classes. Delays in submission of official test scores will
result in delay of new student orientation registration, academic advising, and enrollment
into courses.
On your application, you will select whether you want your application to be reviewed
with a test score (regular admission) or without a test score (holistic admission).
The test optional policy applies to both domestic and international freshman students.
Please note, freshman-transfer and GED/Homeschool students are not eligible to be test optional. These applicants must submit an SAT and/or ACT test score in addition to the official transcript.
No Class Rank
We understand some applicants attend non-traditional or non-ranking schools who do
not provide a class rank. Applicants without a class rank will still be considered
for admission. Applicants in these situations should conduct a cost-benefit analysis
to determine whether holistic admission (test optional) or regular admission (with
SAT/ACT scores) would be more favorable.
The test optional policy provides a level of flexibility and removes a barrier that
many face. Our team of Admissions experts are prepared to review each applicant carefully
to ensure they meet our admission requirements.
State of Texas Uniform Admissions Policy
Texas Education Code (TEC) 51.803-51.809 and TAC, Title 19, Part 1, Chapter 5, Subchapter A, 5.5 require that all students meet one of the following college readiness standards
in order to be eligible for consideration at a Texas Four-Year Public Institution:
- All applicants from Texas schools accredited by a generally recognized accrediting
agency and who graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school class or who graduate
in the top 25 percent of their high school class, shall be admitted to a general academic
teaching institution if the student meets one of the following conditions:
- Successfully completed the distinguished level of achievement under the Foundation, Recommended, or Advanced High School Program from a Texas public high school as outlined under Texas Education Code, 28.025, as well as, 19 TAC 74.63, 74.64, 74.73, and 74.74;
- Successfully completed a curriculum from a high school in Texas other than a public high school that is equivalent in content and rigor to the distinguished level of achievement under the Foundation, the Recommended, or Advanced High School Program as outlined in this section;
- Satisfied ACT's College Readiness Benchmarks on the ACT assessment; or
- Satisfied SAT’s College Readiness Benchmarks on the SAT assessment.
