Bachelor of Science in Physical Sciences - Chemistry Concentration

The Bachelor of Science in Physical Sciences - Chemistry Concentration provides both a broad-based curriculum in the liberal arts and a specific set of courses in the natural sciences designed to meet the personal and career goals and interests of the student.  This degree program is especially appropriate for students interested in multidisciplinary areas such as:

  • Environmental science
  • Earth/geological science
  • Forensic science
  • Medical or patent law
  • Geosciences
  • Life science
  • Medical technology
  • Public health
  • Science education

The physical sciences degree program will prepare those interested in graduate work. It will also prepare students for rewarding careers through smaller classes, faculty mentoring, modern labs, hands-on experience, and flexible class options. Students are encouraged to participate in an appropriate field experience or research activity as part of their curriculum.  Students interested in careers in teaching can pursue a BS in Physical Sciences - Chemistry Concentration with a Teacher Certification in either Chemistry or Geosciences.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

Graduates who earn a BS in Physical Sciences - Chemistry Concentration will be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of the discipline (Basic Knowledge).
  • Demonstrate laboratory skills common to modern laboratories (Laboratory Skills).
  • Effectively communicate scientific information in writing and in oral presentations (Communication Skills).
  • Demonstrate the use of scientific reasoning to analyze and interpret data and implement project-based activities (Scientific Reasoning and Research).
  • Work as part of a team (Teamwork).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical standards for the responsible conduct of scientific research and its applications (Ethics).

DEGREE PLAN INFORMATION

Students should meet with a UHD Academic Advisor to develop their own plan.

ADMISSIONS AND DECLARATION OF MAJOR

  • UHD GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Earned at least 24 college-level semester credit hours,
  • Have a C or better in MATH 1301 or (MATH 1302, MATH 1404, MATH 1505, MATH 2401, MATH 2402, or MATH 2403 )
  • Have credit or enrollment in ENG 1302

  • GPA of 2.0 or higher,
  • Earned at least 24 college-level semester credit hours,
  • Have a C or better in MATH 1301 or (MATH 1302, MATH 1404, MATH 1505, MATH 2401, MATH 2402, or MATH 2403 )
  • Have credit or enrollment in ENG 1302

  • GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Earned at least 24 college-level semester credit hours
  • Have a C or better in MATH 1301 or (MATH 1302, MATH 1404, MATH 1505, MATH 2401, MATH 2402, or MATH 2403 )
  • Have credit or enrollment in ENG 1302
