Site Description
The Houston Aphasia Recovery Center (HARC) is a long-term recovery center for people
with aphasia that supports stroke and brain injury survivors in their ongoing journey
toward improved communication, confidence, and quality of life. Unlike short-term
rehab, these centers offer sustained, person-centered services using the Life Participation
Approach to Aphasia (LPAA). Programs may include group-based communication programs,
conversation, art, music, technology-based exercises, and family support. Lead by
a team of Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), music therapists, and trained volunteers.
The focus is on fostering independence, social connection, and long-term language
recovery.
