Scope of Responsibilities
At UHD, Dr. DeLaVina is responsible for supervising the College's Web Tech, Assistant Dean and indirectly the advising staff. She makes decisions on academic program course petitions. Dr. DeLaVina also assists in implementing improved procedures and services to enhance student development, retention and success, including oversight of graduation procedures. She also oversees the development of graduate programs and monitors course scheduling, enrollment and catalog changes. Also, Dr. DeLaVina addresses student complaints and appeals and assists with budget and long-term planning and college assessment. Additionally, she represents the College and dean at meetings and through other service.
Educational Qualifications
Dr. DeLaVina earned both her Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics and Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Houston and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Texas-Pan American.
Professional Experience
Over the last 17 years, Dr. DeLaVina has served in many leadership roles, including contributing to the University's strategic planning, chairing the University Budget and Planning Council, participating in administrator searches, serving on the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate, co-chairing the Taskforce on Faculty Workload, chairing the Pre-Calculus Curriculum Committee and serving as an Assistant Department Chair. During her time at UHD, Dr. DeLaVina maintained a sound record of scholarly activity, high standards in her courses, mentored students and was PI for an award from Oakridge National Lab.
