Job Summary

The Coordinator of Student Employment coordinates, maintains, and monitors institutional student employment programs in compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines and regulations; collaborates closely with other HR functional areas and with Financial Aid to resolve any student employment matters. The Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for all student employee HR related matters and coordinates student employee engagement activities. The Coordinator coordinates and administers recruitment support services for students and departmental managers while developing and implementing processes, procedures and policies in support of student employment.

Duties

  • Develops and implements processes, procedures, policies, strategic goals and objectives in support of student employment.
  • Advises, coordinates, and completes all aspects of the job posting and hiring process of students in accordance with established guidelines and regulations
  • Recruits incoming and current students for on-campus part-time employment opportunities.
  • Coordinates Criminal Backgrounds Checks and provides support on I-9 completion and compliance trainings for new student employees
  • Acts as consultant to staff, faculty, and others and supports them in their student employment needs.
  • Coordinates student employee engagement activities including planning and executing annual student appreciation week events in coordination with other university stakeholders.
  • Partners with University departments to create on-campus student employment opportunities such as job fairs.
  • Works with students and supervisors to strategically place students in the most appropriate and suitable department.
  • Collaborates with talent development and/or career services in facilitating training programs and workshops.
  • Collaborates with UHD's Career Services departments to address student off-campus employment needs.
  • Collaborates with employee relations staff on student employee matters.
  • Provides student applicants troubleshooting assistance with the Applicant Tracking System.
  • Create and/or updates the student employment website and other written materials.
  • Provides support to student employees working with external parties.
  • Provides ad-hoc reports as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in career development, recruitment, employment, business management or other closely related area.

License/Certification:

  • None Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • SHRM-CP certification HR experience in a higher education setting
