Scope of Responsibilities

At UHD, Mr. Hugetz serves as the Chief Academic and Student Affairs Officer and is responsible for the coordination of all programs. He is in charge of all of UHD's Academic Colleges, Enrollment Management, Student Life, W.I. Dykes Library, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, Academic Advising and Mentoring, Applied Business Technology Center, English Language Institute, Institutional Research, Institutional Effectiveness, Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, Academic Support Center, Learning Connections and Academic Centers. He is also responsible for supervising University deans, promoting and facilitating shared governance, leading University planning and assessment and overseeing UHD's accreditation. Mr. Hugetz also provides direction for research, scholarship and creative activities; administers the hiring, promotion and tenure process and leads efforts to enhance student retention and graduation rates. Additional responsibilities include developing new degree programs and strengthening existing programs, as well as providing leadership for W.I. Dykes Library, International Programs and Online and Continuing Education.

Educational Qualifications

Mr. Hugetz earned his Master of Arts in Humanities in Media Studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo and Bachelor of Arts in Modern Language from the University of Notre Dame.

Professional Experience

Edward Hugetz has nearly 25 years of experience in upper level leadership roles within the University of Houston System, which includes serving the past two years as UHD's Interim Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Provost. His experience started in the University of Houston System when he became the Interim Provost for the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL). At the University of Houston-Clear Lake he led the university through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaccreditation and also dealt with budget cuts. Following the University of Houston-Clear Lake, Mr. Hugetz served as the Director for the University of Houston System in Fort Bend, Texas. This is where he created the University of Houston System's first collaborative academic teaching center. Later, Mr. Hugetz took on the role of Assistant Vice Chancellor/Vice President of Planning and University Outreach for the University of Houston System/University of Houston. This is where he oversaw the planning of the newly merged University of Houston/University of Houston System as well as managed expansion initiatives. In 2004, Mr. Hugetz accepted the position of Associate Vice Chancellor/Vice President of Planning and University Outreach for the University of Houston System/University of Houston. In this role, he worked as the Chief System Officer and reported directly to the University of Houston System Chancellor. In addition, he served as Liaison Officer to the Texas Coordinating Board and worked with the University of Houston System's Governmental Relations to prepare the Legislative Appropriations Request.
