Scope of Responsibilities
At UHD, Ms. Ensor serves as library director for a primarily undergraduate institution with almost 15,000 students in a major metropolitan area. She administers planning, budgeting, personnel, and ongoing operation of the library, as well as working with University Advancement to obtain resources from outside the university, marketing the library within and outside the institution and representing the library around the campus and within the University of Houston System. Ms. Ensor serves as a member of the Provost's Executive Team, reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Library is a unit with a budget of over $4 million, with about 40 library staff members, including 16 librarians. Holdings include over 250,000 physical volumes and almost 350,000 electronic books.
Ms. Ensor earned her Master of Library Services from the University of Alabama and Bachelor of Science in History from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Her certifications include: Trained Mediator, State of Texas and National Coalition Building Institute Certified Trainer.
While in library school, Pat Ensor interned with IBM's Santa Teresa Programming Laboratory Library in Santa Teresa, California. She is the Executive Director of Library Services at the University of Houston-Downtown, where she has been since January, 1999. This follows six years as the Head of Information Services at the University of Houston Libraries and previous positions as Coordinator of Electronic Information Services at Indiana State University and Reference Librarian at California State University, Long Beach.
