PLC Technician I Certificate Program

The PLC Technician program provides a basic introduction to PLCs and focuses on the practical applications of using them in a plant or manufacturing system. This program is designed for students with little or no PLC experience and who require a safe and quick start in the fundamentals of PLC programming.

The PLC Technician Certificate includes PLCLogix 500 a PLC simulator used throughout the program to teach and experiment with the fundamentals of RSLogix 500 ladder logic programming, using file-based addressing.

The PLCLogix 500 simulation software includes approximately 250 pre-built lab projects; including 50 lab projects presented in ten "real world" 3D PLC application environments. PLCLogix 500 allows you to create ladder logic programs, see a program's operation using a simulator and control the operation of the program from within this interactive environment. It replaces the PLC ladder rung editor and all the electrical components that have, until now, been required to learn PLC programming and operation.

Each of the following 19 modules includes learning objectives, practical applications, technical tips, interactive labs, review questions and online final exams.

  1. Overview of PLCs
  2. Central Processing Unit
  3. I/O System
  4. Programming Terminals and Peripherals
  5. Installation and Maintenance of PLCs
  6. Relay Logic
  7. Ladder Logic
  8. Timers
  9. Counters
  10. MCR, JUMP, and FORCE Instructions
  11. Sequencers
  12. Data Transfer
  13. Math Functions
  14. Process Control
  15. Data Communications
  16. Number Systems and Codes
  17. Digital Logic
  18. RTUs & PACs
  19. Introduction to Automation

Computer-Based Curriculum, Textbook, and Online Resources

Many students benefit greatly from having ready access to a reference textbook as they work through the content of our computer-based program. The course content on the program disk is very closely matched by the content in our supplementary PLC textbook. The textbook is not a required reference. We make it available for those students who find a benefit in having access to this more traditional style of presentation of the program content.

Our online student support website provides a wide range of resources, including access to your “Account”, online forums, testing, videos, animations, images and additional supplementary learning materials.

Online Exams

Being tested is always a stressful and challenging part of your student experience. To help you prepare for testing, our program material includes detailed practice exams covering the material in each module. If you complete these practice exams and work with our program tutors to resolve any problem areas, you will be well prepared to excel on the online exams taken at the end of each module.

The PLC Technician I Program Includes:

  • Web Based Curriculum
  • PLCLogix 500 Lab Simulation software
  • Software lab manual
  • Tutorial and Technical Support Access to additional online program resources
  • Online Testing
  • An optional Textbook is available at an additional cost

Register now and get started in the program for $440
Our pay-as-you-learn option allows you to enroll in the program for $440, which pays for the Interactive Learning Package including lab simulation software and the program material. Also included in this fee are the tuition, final exam, and ancillary fees for Module 1 as well as the technical and tutorial support for the module material. After you complete the first module, you simply pay for additional modules as you work through them. The remaining 18 modules can be purchased individually at $70 per module or in groups. You can take up to 2 years to complete the program.

Register in the complete program for $1,700

Register into a complete program and you will have full access to all modules and learning resources in the program. Full registration includes all tuition fees and learning material fees for the program and represents the entire program cost.
