In the age of Google, ChatGPT, and increasingly educated population, knowledge is no longer a powerful differentatior in the professional realm. Nearly everyone, it would seem, is an armchair expert. Understanding, however, is, as a true understanding of a role allows one to know not just the what, but the when and the why. In this context, UHD graduates should be prepared to articulate the ways in which their disciplilnary knowledge intersects with questions of judgement, ethics, strategy, and leadership.
To ensure this, UHD is launching its 2026 Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), "Beyond the Bayou: Transferable Skills for the 21st Century." This initiative offers free, self-paced micro-credentials via Canvas in four critical areas:
- Decision-Making: The evaluation of evidence and mitigating cognitive biases.
- Technology: Transitioning from passive usage to intentional usage that solves execution problems.
- Professionalism: Developing the ethics and judgement required to thrive in a career.
- Communication: Ensuring clarity and accuracy.
By completing these modules, students earn digital badges and gain skills that increase the value of their degree. Gators, get ready to get out of the classroom, beyond the bayou, and into a successful career.
