The College of Sciences & Technology (CST) at UHD is a community of thinkers, coders, and builders motivated not just to learn science, math, or engineering but to apply what they learn in those disciplines to the most critical areas of life. From real-world AI applications to campus sustainability initiatives, CST connects Gators with community needs and helps them build the skills and dispositions necessary to make a lasting, positive impact.
1. Academic Programs Driven by Innovation!
CST is home to three departments: Computer Science & Engineering Technology, Mathematics & Statistics, and Natural Sciences, from which graduates go on to become machine-learning specialists, environmental scientists, or cybersecurity analysts ready to solve realworld problems. For example, cybersecurity students have tackled challenges like preventing phishing attacks or securing cloud networks for local nonprofits, and environmental science students have addressed Houston’s heat island effect by helping develop sustainable rooftop gardens. That problem-solving mindset is grounded in hands-on lab experiences and faculty-mentored research.
2. Practice-Based, Workforce-Driven Graduate Degrees
Whether you’re looking to advance in your current role or pivot into tech-heavy fields like business intelligence or predictive analytics, the M.S. in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) and M.S. in Data Analytics (MSDA), offer practical training for high-demand skills. And while you're upskilling, UHD’s Center for Career and Professional Development can help you translate your newly acquired expertise into opportunity. In short, graduates are equipped to get promoted, launch startups, or transition confidently into new careers.
3. The Scholars Academy
Housed within CST, the Scholars Academy supports high-performing STEM students, offering scholarships, mentorship, research opportunities, and smaller class sizes. But it’s more than academic support, it’s a community of service-inclined changemakers who mentor Gator undergraduates and learn valuable leadership skills.
4. A Living Laboratory
CST teaches sustainability through action, thanks to the Center of Urban Agriculture and Sustainability (CUAS). The CUAS educates students and the community about sustainability practices, why they matter, and how to implement them in real-world settings. And while students certainly dig into their course content, sometimes they're digging literally by maintaining the UHD Sustainability Garden, as they tackle food insecurity and environmental issues head on.
5. Future-Focused Career Pathways
Gators in CST launch startups, analyze climate data, and conduct lifesaving research, and eventually become software developers, AI engineers, or educators, trained to think critically, experiment boldly, and embrace careers they may never have imagined. At CST, research is personal and science meets purpose.
