Born and raised in Houston, Gladis Moya, Benefits & Compensation Administrator, has served the UHD community for 25 years. Making her way up from student employee, Moya is the first of her seven siblings to earn a bachelor's degree and was recently awarded the "President's Staff Excellence Award" for her community service and dedication to the university.
A proud UHD alum (BBA, 2015), she worked in both the Campus Events & Reservations and Sports & Fitness and is familiar with the world of customer service. In high school, she worked part-time at Kroger and then transitioned to a full-time position as a recruiter while also beginning her studies at UHD. Even with a few hiccups along the way, she was determined. "I needed my parents to be proud, and I wanted to show them I could earn my degree."
Over the last few years, she worked in Human Resources as the Administrator of Benefits & Compensation and was recently promoted to Manager of Benefits & Compensation.
"I like to communicate and work with others," she said. "Being a team player and going above and beyond in my department, and with faculty and students, is important to me." She has also had the opportunity to become a mentor to student workers and said that UHD gives both students and employees “the opportunity to grow."
Always an active participant, Moya volunteers each year for the Annual Chili Cookoff, an event she has chaired for more than 10 years.
Setting an example is important to Moya, and she strives to be a positive one for her 11-year-old daughter. "I try to inspire her. Education is important, and I hope she sees how hard I work and how much she helps me."
