Poonam Gulati Salhotra
Executive Director, Impact Learning Office
Program and Curriculum
One Main Building, Suite S629
Scope of Responsibilities
At UHD, Dr. Gulati provides vision, leadership, and administrative direction for the Office of Impact Learning, establishing that office as a hub for campus-wide activities and initiatives related to high impact learning practices (HIPs) at UHD, including serving as a central location for the promotion, assessment, and engagement of such practices across the academic units of the campus. Emphasis will be given in this work to four signature UHD experiences—service learning, undergraduate research, internships, and study abroad programs—but the work of the office extends to the full range of high impact learning practices as they are developed, assessed, and implemented at UHD. The Executive Director ensures that the office is visible and active, which entails developing and executing the vision for the Office of Impact Learning focused on facilitating pathways for students to participate in curricular and co-curricular HIPs as well as working with university constituencies to expand and enhance these programmatic initiatives.
Dr. Gulati earned her Doctor of Philosophy from Cornell University Weill Graduate School of Medical Sciences and Applied Bachelor Degree from Cornell University, College of Arts and Sciences.
Poonam Gulati has engaged with students in the community since 1999, shortly after joining UHD. Her students have gone to elementary schools and conducted science lessons with the children. Dr. Gulati also brought the community to UHD by showcasing symposia on science and society. More recently, she has begun service learning in her classes where her students collaborate with Urban Education students to design science experiments for elementary school children.
